Navigating Students' Self Advocacy and Self Care

“THE STRUCTURE OF A THRIVE OFF TRAUMA COURSE PROVIDES A SAFE, SECURE, SPACE AND LENDS ITSELF TO TEACHING STUDENTS HOW TO RECOGNIZE, VOICE, AND STAND FIRM IN THEIR NEEDS, TRUTHS, WHILE BEING AWARE OF AND TO CARE FOR THE NEEDS AND TRUTHS OF OTHERS.”

We all know how difficult it can be to speak up for yourself. Articulating your needs takes a lot of energy and carries the anxiety of rejection.

I asked the group a question about halfway through, “who has ever given up your own needs for the sake of someone else or a group?”
The sounds of crickets in the evening air grew louder as my coworkers all raised their hands and looked around at each other.

Self-advocacy is taught in simple ways on expeditions in ways that are easily applied to more personal aspects of a student’s life back home.

Thrive Off Trauma's approach is to intertwine Self-Advocacy, Self-Care, and Self-Awareness in a modality that takes SELF and combines OTHERS-SELF to ignite a complete awareness bubble where we become important to ourselves and make others truths just as important.
